How do I as an Employer establish contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA) on my employees behalf through Highmark?

To ensure employee information is sent confidentially, the employer will need to create a secure Highmark email account. To do so:

  1. Go to Highmark Secure Mail
  2. Complete the necessary steps

Once the secure account has been established, you will need to submit a template/contribution file for each payroll period.  The file will contain the employee contribution data and must be sent via secure email.  Contributions may be made on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis depending on what suits your needs and payroll cycle.  To submit HSA contribution files:

  1. Complete the template file with an entry for each employee.  Do not leave any fields blank.  If an employee is listed, but no contribution is being made, enter zero for all contribution amounts.
  2. Log into the secure email system
  3. Attached the file to an email containing your name and employer location and send via secure email to: HSAbillingfiles@highmark.com

Upon receipt, the contribution file will be reviewed and loaded to the individual employee accounts. Once Highmark receives verification that the employees’ HSA contributions are complete, you will receive a secure email containing a confirmation file detailing the amount loaded into each employee account.

Approximately one to two weeks after the confirmation file is sent, you will also be notified that there is an invoice in e-Bill that needs to be paid.  You will be notified by email of your personal secure e-Bill login ID and password.  Once the login information is received, you may enter the following website address to access e-Bill. https://ebill.highmark.com/ebp/index.html

For additional information see HSA Contribution and Funding Guide.

Note: If you are an employer and your organization is changing to a new HSA vendor for all employees, please share this information with them so they can move their balance to the new vendor and avoid paying account maintenance fees to two vendors.
