How are employees newly eligible for coverage impacted by the 90-day waiting period limitation rule?

Employees who become eligible for coverage cannot be forced to wait more than 90 days for their coverage to begin. If the 91st day falls on a holiday or weekend, the employee's coverage must be in effect before that 91st day. Certain individuals who are excluded from this 90-day waiting period limitation include, but are not limited to, individuals on a non-medical plan, variable-hour employees and missionaries who are raising funds for their income.
