What does 2 or 3 years' own occupation mean as it applies to disability insurance?

For the first 24 or 36 months (as specified by your plan) of a disability, you are considered totally disabled if you are unable to perform the material duties of your regular occupation due to a covered injury or sickness.

After 24 or 36 months (as specified by your plan), you are considered disabled if you are unable to perform the material duties of any gainful occupation for which you are reasonably fitted by education, training or experience.
